Hey! Hope you all are having a snarfingly good first week of September. Please welcome today's author, Alex!
Alex J. Cavanaugh is a fan of all things science fiction, his interests range from books and movies to music and games, and he covers those topics on his blog. His first book, CassaStar, was released last fall and is available in trade paperback and all eBook formats. The sequel, CassaFire, comes out next February.
Life and Writing: How do you manage to do so much in 24 hours?
Years of honing my Ninja skills! That, and I get to blog from work, which really helps.
Writing Miscellany: Is there a different genre you might like to try and write someday?
I enjoy reading fantasy and might eventually tackle that genre. A really original idea needs to hit first.
Random or Weird Question: What is your opinion on Pluto no longer being a planet?
I’m appalled! Terrible news. How is Mickey Mouse going to break the news to his dog?
(Okay. So if Pluto's not a planet, it still doesn't answer the other mystery question that has addled my brain since kidlethood. What the heck is Goofy?)
Got any questions for Alex? Shoot. :)

I'm seriously confused about Goofy. Lol
Yeah, I'm not really sure what goofy is either. Maybe his name is meant to reflect his identity crisis.
LOL. What is goofy? He kinda looks like a cow. Just finished CassaStar can't wait for CassaFire. Amazing.
Goofy is a Man-Dawg :-)
I love the Pluto question!! Alex is great. Thanks for hosting him. Enjoy your weekend!
I thought Goofy was a dog. Now, I'm totally confused.
Alex, how many hours per week do you spend (guesstimate) blogging and hitting other blogs?
Wonderful interview.
Pluto got a raw deal. I've filed a class action law suit on its behalf, and am including Charon and other similar planetoids. Luna wanted in too, and I signed her up. If we went there'll be a lot MORE planets in our solar system and I think that's a good thing.
Thanks again, Lydia!
E. Arroyo, thank you!!
Isis, would it scare you if I said three to five hours a day?
Great cover for CassaFire! Don't think I've seen it before.
Thanks Lydia for hosting Alex today.
Hi Lydia and Alex .. great being here .. poor old Pluto - no-one's thought to ask the star what it feels!!
900+ followers here I see too ... good for you .. Lydia you certainly seem one busy lady .. cheers good to meet you - Hilary
Fun as always, Alex! Thanks for the interview Lydia!
Thanks Lydia and Alex, wonderful interview. Look forward to the next book.
Yvonne.
Haha, great interview. I was chronically depressed when they said Pluto was no longer a planet. It's an outrage:P
Oh, and I think Goofy's a dog, though he's kinda an odd one.
Alex is the best! But I really have no idea how he visits 4 times as many blogs as me. I can do it from work too, but that man is like Flash Gordon.
If I couldn't read and blog from work I don't know what I'd do. I am glad you keep showing us new authors!
Goofy was from Pluto until it no longer became a planet and then it just came from nowhere.
Great interview.
Goofy's a horse!!! Yes he is!!!
Awww lovely to see Cap'n Ninja here - thank you Lydia!! Take care
x
Amazing how the Pluto question won't go away ... I tried to outline a fantasy book but it's just not working out. So good luck to you with that!
I always wondered about Goofy too.
short and sweet. you answered my curiosity with the first question. i always wondered how you seem to be the first commenter everywhere i turn!
As long as Mickey doesn't change his name to Uranus I think Pluto will be fine.
Poor Pluto, both the non planet and the dog....I've been wondering the same thing about Goofy. My daughter watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse everyday, and it always makes me curious to what he could be. :)
I always wondered about Goofy, too!
Happy Weekend to both of you :)
I feel bad for Pluto, really. Always an outcast. Ah, well.
Congrats to your success Alex!!!!!
Thanks, Anne!
Thank you, Yvonne.
Matthew - Ninja Captain Flash Gordon Alex!
Kitty, always good for a laugh!
Tara, I just try to visit all of my blogger buddies.
Thanks LB - and everyone!
Why does Goofy wear clothes and Pluto doesn't? And where the heck are Donald Duck's pants?
Mysteries of the universe.
Ahahaha! The mystery lives on. I am completely distraught about Pluto. I'm not sure I can put myself together.
Fun questions, Lydia! Great answers, Alex!
Alex sounds like a lot of fun, I'll have to check out his books!
LD, Howard the Duck stole Donald's pants!
Heather, thanks - I'm fun, just not goofy.
FUN spotlight!!
This is nice...well at least now that he is retired, Pluto can go back to following Mickey around .
I draw pictures up at the observatory as to why Pluto isn't a major planet. It's still a minor planet. There's a couple hundred thousand of those in our solar system. :)
Goofy is kind of confusing.
Hah! I'm wearing a shirt that says, "Revolve in peace, Pluto." :D Great interview!
I'm still in denial about Pluto--the planet that is. Yes, it is still a planet in my book.
Lee
Tossing It Out
Carrie, that's funny!
Fun interview!
We have a dog named Goofy!
Haha! And why is Goofy always being paired with Clarabelle Cow?!?
It boggles the mind.
Fun interview! Alex is a super ninja. ;)
I believe River Phoenix said it best in Stand By Me: "He can't be a dog, he wears a hat and drives a car. . . " Great interview, Lydia and Alex.
The tenth planet should be named Goofy.
I enjoyed this interview.
xoRobyn
THe whole Pluto situation makes me sad - poor little guy!
I was going to quote Stand By Me, but Julie beat me to it! I love the Pluto question - ingenious! I wish I could think of fun questions like that for interviews. That was brilliant. And I love the CassaFire cover!! Every time I see it, I can't wait until it comes out!
I'm refusing to buy Pluto is not a planet. It is in all my novels. So there, Scientific Community!
This midnight, the ghost of Ernest Hemingway steals my post for the insecure writer support group and inserts his own. He isn't exactly a hand-holding kind of guy! But he does have a point or two, Roland
Ahh! I missed the reveal for the cover of CASSAFIRE! It's beautiful!
Fun interview!
Yeah, really... what IS Goofy? Huh. Now I'm going to wondering forever.
Great interview, guys!
Fun interview, now I'm curious who came first, Goofy or Pluto? It's always been weird having both. Thanks Lydia and Alex.
So glad I dropped by and now I know how Alex manages to visit so many blogs. I love Goofy!
Thanks for the interview Lydia.
Denise
aha! one of life's greatest mysteries solved - Alex blogs from work! And I'm sure the ninja skills help too.
Great interview. Alex is awesome.
Robyn, I agree!
Jennie, thank you so much.
Ali, thanks! I was really excited the first time I saw it.
Terry, Ninjas are not above cheating a little.
Thanks everyone and thanks again Lydia!
'I enjoy reading fantasy and might eventually tackle that genre. A really original idea needs to hit first.'
I love this answer.
And Pluto will *always* be a planet to me.
What? Pluto's no longer a planet? Lovely to see Alex over here. I've no idea how he manages to get everything done in a day!
Nice to see Alex here! Thanks for the interview, Lydia. And wow, I didn't know there was a sequel out to CassaStar. :) Congrats on that, Alex. And YES, it's important (and difficult) to think of a "really original idea." Good luck! :)
Thanks, Suze!
Talli, it's those Ninja skills...
Thank you, Carol - I'm excited!
Thanks for the interview, Lydia! Alex was fun to 'meet!'
Hehe, great interview... you know... that very question has troubled me for some time as well :)
Very excited for the sequel Alex!
Thank you Writing Nut - less than six months!
lol, one of the best interviews I've read in a long time ;)
Also, Alex, I'd love for you to write a fantasy. :)
whee! Fun stuff! Hey, Alex! And yeah, what IS Goofy???
You forgot to mention Alex's insecure writers group. I am LUVIN these posts~ ((hugs)) <3
