Chicken Run & Aging

I hate to complain about aging. I need something better to say these days than "Oh my creaky back."

The other day during a rant on general stiffness, my hubs said, "You're a spring chicken. You're not old."

Well. I'm not really a spring chicken. Hell, I might be summer chicken but only on a good day. And anyway, you know what they did to the hens that stopped laying in Little Town on the Prairie? (And yes, I am a hen that has stopped laying. FYI. Not in the hormonal sense, but in the "baby-oven-is-closed-for-bizness" sense.)

Ma Ingalls made them into chicken pie.

In the words of Babs from the movie Chicken Run (*cue British accent*):

I DON'T WANT TO BE A PIE!

You can't control the aching bones and joints but you know it might be due to the weather. I find this weather we have in BC not good for joints but its better than sitting in ice and 5 feet of snow in the east. lol

I'm pretty creaky too, but I think that's more a problem with crap furniture I sit on at work, and not being able to afford nearly enough massages, AND not doing nearly enough stretches (I pretty much do none right now).

We sing "Old McDonald's farm" and when it gets time to say chicken, I always tickle the boys.

It may never make me younger, but I *feel* younger as I scamper around the floor :)

You're definitely young compared to me. I am feeling a bit older and a tad tireder lately.

Loved the interview today. Already saw it.

Just Saturday I realized I was almost twice the age of everyone in my Extreme Fitness Boot Camp. And ultimately that made me happy because I could keep pace with most of them.

Just think of burgeoning maturity as a chance to dazzle people even more.

I saw enough old aged people this weekend to make me want to go out quick in a pie.

I don't want to be a pie either! Will hop over to the interview!

I wasn't that good of a young person.

I'm hoping for bigger and better things from middle age.

My hubs often comments about feeling his age. I think it's because he's an athlete and notices all the things he can't do quite so well anymore. Feel young, Lydia! Age is just a...thing, a number.

Gosh, I don't wanna be a pie either!

Oh, you look like a Spring Chicken to me! But staying away from that pie oven is definitely good policy :-)

Hahaha, that's an awesome line :)

Do you do any yoga/tai-chi/etc to combat stiffness? that's the best way to stay loose & limber, no matter what the age ;)

Lydia, you still look the same, from the time I met you online more than three years back.

A summer chicken--hehehhehe--funny post. Yes, those creaky knees etc suck. I've found that it's super-helpful to get up and stretch about every 1/2 hour when at my laptop.

Summer chicken sounds very accommodating as a description. Still a lot of life and kicking, though you got to be careful of too much kicking. Might sprain something that you didn't know could be sprained. And no aching backs. Let's call them irritants to a Lady-like-perfect-posture.

Tell them you don't want to be a chicken either!

Chicken baby oven pot pie is closed for business, eh? Haha, I think I got all that mixed up :) hehe

It's when I wake up and somehow I've pulled a muscle sleeping that I find hardest to take. It's all falling apart. A nice pie sounds quite nice, all warm and wrapped up.

Oh Lord, I may have passed pie material and I'm heading for stew.

The good thing about your profession is your ability to diagnosis and heal. The rest of us just complain louder.

Enjoy your day Dr.

The aches that come from surviving the years are better than the alternative! Personally, I just believe I need a better mattress!

I'm going to a week long yoga class next week with Swami Mukundanand. His classes make me feel so young! That's one way not to become pie, hee hee.

My dad always said growing old beat the hell out of the alternative. I whine about it, but in my heart, I know I'm one of the lucky ones to get to click off the years on the calendar.

Better a summer chicken than a dead duck. Er, something like that...

I don't want to be a pie, either! LOL
