Get Healthy Blog Hop!

Welcome to the Get Healthy Blog Hop!

I'm supposed to give an easy tip to help you get healthy. Oh boy. Which to choose? As many of you know, I've spent countless hours helping my patients get healthy as an internal medicine primary care physician. Which means, I've got countless tips, too.

Ahh, the pressure! I can't pick just one! I mean, there are a million things you should do. Exercise. Eat nuts. More veggies and fruits. Stop smoking. Stay away from junk food. Keep your weight healthy.

It's a lot to keep track of. No matter how good your intentions, you will slip up.

The key? Don't let slip-ups ruin all your hard work by turning into the status quo. You're human, after all! So many people have a bad day with eating, or miss a few days of exercise and let it derail everything. Next thing you know, those mistakes and excuses turn into permanent changes and a regression to old, bad habits.

So my advice? Let yourself make mistakes. And then--make a conscious decision the next day to get back to your usual, healthy ways.

And since most of us are of the literary persuasion on this blog hop, let's let a character inspire us. As Anne of Green Gables said: “Isn't it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?”

:)

Thanks so much to Alex, Stephen, Dianne and Michael for hosting the blog hop! Check out the whole list of participants here!

I love the wisdom of Anne of Green Gables. I needed to hear that today: a new day with no mistakes. Awesome!

"Let yourself make mistakes. And then--make a conscious decision the next day to get back to your usual, healthy ways." Lydia, I completely agree with this wisdom.

We took the weekend "off" from eating healthy and both my wife and I felt *blech* Tuesday, so it was back to the healthy eating :)

This great advice can be applied to so many other areas in life. Thanks for the reminder!

Great tips. I slip up at times but it's important to remember not to let it be the norm like you said.

Awesome advice. So important to remember, not just when it comes to being physically healthy, but mentally as well. We all have bad days in so many ways, but we don't have to let them define us!

Use slip-ups as a splurge day! That's what we do.
Thanks for participating in our bloghop.

I love this! I have lost over 162 lbs. in the last 5 years, and I know it's never too late to take control of your health.

Great advice! (and Anne is so my kindred spirit)

If you're at a graduation party, eat a small piece of cake, forgive yourself and just make healthier choices the next day. ;)

I don't make mistakes.

Dr. Oz calls those the U-turns and emphasizes how important it is, with the very next minute, to pick up and move on from a mistake. Probably not a bad philosophy for life, not just eating!

Annalisa Crawford said...

Ooh, that's a good one! It's really easy to slip up by eating a biscuit you didn't mean to, then eating the whole packet.

Great tip, Lydia. So many of us set extremely high expectations for ourselves. I think it's good to make mistakes and have slip-ups every now and again.

I love that quote from Anne; so true.

I agree, we slip up but as long as we learn from it we are making it count. Great quote ;)

I had an intentionally slip-up last weekend, and in the past that would have been me giving up, but I've managed to get back 'on the wagon'! Every new day is a new start :)

HI, Lydia,

That is such EXCELLENT advice. We often beat ourselves up for one mistake and it spirals into a month's and even year's worth of bad habits.

Thanks so much for joining the HOP!

I think you are so right about the slip ups. It's usually a feeling of defeat that sends me running for burgers and fries! Comfort food, right?

Hey, Lydia,

Thanks! I do need to remember to get back on the wagon quickly when I fall off, which is often.

All of us can re-focus and start again. All of us are hardest on ourselves, but I like the quote from Anne. And, did you notice the Google illustration today? It's the celebration of the invention of the Petri Dish, complete with growing bacteria. :)

Hello! I am loving this blog hop. So many great thoughts on health. Anne of green gables is one of my faves :)

That's the best tip I've read from this blog hop Lydia!

What a wonderful blog hop topic! And what great encouragement. Just what I needed to hear--after an indulgent vacation, I decided it was time to get back to my normal eating habits. But then, my dad surprised me with a 10 gazillion calorie ice cream bar. To say "no" would've hurt his feelings, so I enjoyed it and will start eating healthy tomorrow. :)

This is really fascinating material! I personally have completely cherished reading your own points and have arrived at the conclusion that you are correct with regards to a lot of them. You actually are great.

I like that tip. We can't let our slip ups make us feel so guilty that we stop trying to be good. Everyone deserves a slip up here and there but only as long as it's a slip up, not the norm.

The best way to living a healthy lifestyle, eating healthy and forming healthy eating habits for the long run, has always come from within, within the home that is. We cannot look to others, books, magazines and publications for making us a healthy family or giving us the healthy lifestyle we would want to live.
