Breaking the Twitter Barrier

Okay, well. I've succumbed.

Up until now, I never really cared about who was tweeting whom, or what, or why.

This past week, during the crazy querying process, an agent apparently tweeted that they liked my query.

Suddenly, my (heretofore nonexistent) Twitter antennae went up.

And they stayed up. I started Twitter stalking following a few agents. And then I decided to just come clean.

So I'm on Twitter, y'all. And it's still so weird and new, I feel like I'm riding a bicycle with no handlebars.

Got any tips for a newbie?

Want me to follow you? Let me know, and I shall.

I'm @LydiaYKang. I can't wait to hear more of what you guys have to tweet about!

Yeah! I enjoy twitter because some agents and publishers post really great tips. It is a good source for writers. Follow me @MirandaWritesYA. Happy tweeting!

I think it's worth it. And you only have to spend as much time as you want to on it! Cool. I'll find you.

That's exciting that an agent Tweeted about you. Very cool.

You might as well join in, seems to be unavoidable.

Good for you!! I've been thinking about joining Twitter, but it just seems like "one more thing." (Of course, I thought the same thing about Facebook and I like FB.) Let us know how you like Tweeting.

I've found that I actually prefer Twitter to FB these days (although my parents and in-laws would howl with rage if I ever stopped putting pictures of my littles up on FB, so I doubt I'll ever completely let go of that). I especially like being able to connect with other writers, and keep up to date on what's going on in the writing and publishing world. I'll definitely be following you now, too!

Well I'm not on twitter so I haven't a clue but I just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS on your query being picked up and liked and tweeted by an agent! That's just so so sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo FAB!!!! Yay!! Well done you! take care

Welcome aboard the Twitter train. I'll follow. :) Nice job with the query, too!! My only advice is to be careful. Twitter can suck a ton of time from you, but it's a great tool to keep you connected to the writing world.

Twitter is the one thing I haven't tried yet. I don't think I'll be able to keep up! Is it hard to follow what's going on? Is it time-consuming?

Fantastic that you got a little agent love.

I have a Twitter account, but as with FB, I just don't use it much.

Jonene Ficklin said...

Wow, congratulations! That's huge (both the agent liking your query and twittering.) My son swears by it, but I've had the same complex. I'd like to hear more about your learning curve, because some day I know I'll have to wise up and join the rest o f the world.

Ack. I've been avoiding Twitter. Now you've given me a genuine reason to get on it - stalking agents. Crud.

I'll follow you! Sorry, no tips. I still don't know what I'm doing.

I looked at it said there was no one with that name. I'm @alexjcavanaugh

I'm saving Twitter as a reward for finishing a manuscript. At the rate I'm going, see you there sometime in 2014. ;-)

Hey Lydia! That's wonderful about the agent, AND I've been fighting to stay away from Twitter, too....but since you've taken the plunge, then I know I must follow! I have no idea how to even join, but I'll go take a look!

storyqueen said...

Congratulations!

And I'm still holding out...I don't think I can make room for one more thing...but who knows.

Hey Lydia,

I'm not on Twitter yet either, but I plan on joining anyday, and have been holding off for as long as possible...not sure why.

I am going to take a class on Twittering at an upcoming writer's conference - I'll 'Twitter' you what I learn : )

Good luck and keep your hands on the bars!

I'm not there yet but I will be in a week or so. I'll follow you if you'll follow me :)
Happy Weekend!

Wow, what a way to get your attention! I personally love Twitter, and have gotten a lot more active on there recently.

I'm still a Twitter lurker. And I have no idea how to talk back to anyone on there. I don't get the whole @ thing. I'm really a lost twitter bird.

Linda Gray said...

I'm on Twitter, and mostly use it to participate in my blog partner Heather's Tweetchat, #Writersroad on Mondays at 6:00p.m. I will follow you, Lydia, and am excited to see what's happening with the agent!

Some people really seem to like it. Thanks for reminding me to go over there & pay it a visit. I'll look for you.

I love the image you included with your post. Very endearing and whimsical. :)

And super congratulations on the agent tweet.

Hey! Welcome to Twitterville, Lydia! I will definitely find you. I joined in March I think it was. Or maybe February. Anyway, I have a How To Do Twitter thing I'll send ya. ;o)

Congrats on the agent tweet!

Lisa Gail Green said...

Yay!!! I'm totally addicted to Twitter. Thank you for following me. Hopefully I won't overload your feed. :D

Munk said...

I'm on, but I rarely tweet. It is REALLY noisy out there and I don't like yelling to be heard.

@munkdavis

Congrats on the agent tweet!

Heather said...

The best advice I could give you would be to join in on some of the Twitter chats, but use TweetChat to do it. That way you'll connect with a lot of great people in the writing community that are on Twitter, even a few agents and publishers!

#WritersRoad chat is Monday nights at 6pm PT.

Yay, I followed you. I do have twitter tips on my blog. Feel free to peruse them.

Happy tweeting and see ya on the flip side!

Yay for agent tweet and yay for getting on twitter! I've been on there since ye elde days of twitter when no one was on there. It was really boring then. :P

I'm @kangaru, and I'm so following you! (Ok, that sounded creepier than I meant.)

So here's my tip, which may seem kind of obvious, but my friend totally didn't realize this until I pointed it out. When you're feeling totally overwhelmed/like you can't catch up, go to the @mentions tab just to see people who have tweeted at you or mentioned you. Easier to make sure you don't miss replying to someone.

Good luck! You'll get the hang of it soon & I hope I don't clog up your feed! :P

Just followed you. :)

Congrats on the Twitter support from an agent. I haven't a tweet, good or ill, from an agent.

Welcome to the Tweet Universe. I don't tweet much. Too much on my plate. Only good tweets, Roland

Oooh, congrats on an agent liking your query!!! That's so exciting! I may have to look more into this whole Twitter thing at some point.

Sarah said...

Well, Lydia, this news has made me irrationally excited. Congrats on getting some tweet-love for your query, and welcome to twitter!

M Pax said...

Oooo! Congrats on getting tweeted about and for your query. That's fantastic.

Talk to people. There's #FF on fridays [follow fridays] and #WW on wednesdays [writer wednesdays].

I loves the Twitter. I broke 3,000 followers this week. :D

It took me a long time to like twitter, but I love it now, it's so versatile if you are short on time (aren't we all?) just whizz on and off quickly don't hang around on there is my advice :)

Liza said...

Still holding off on Twitter, but good for you! A positive tweet about a query? Way to start!

If you get any good tips, do share. I'm trying to figure the whole thing out right now!

Honestly, I have no clue how it works. But I have an account and I am following about 2000 people and very few are following me.

Oooo, you've made the plunge! I almost did it the other day when I realized I was missing a couple of threads about publishing.

So obviously I can't offer any advice. Good luck!

I resisted Twitter for so long. Now I'm wishing I could delete FB and the blog and stick to only Twitter. It's so much more...economical.

How wild that an agent tweeted about your query! How did you find out?

I'm a drive-by Tweeter. It still overwhelms me, but I do like it in small doses :)

I have no tips because I've never tweeted but that's cool that an agent liked your query. Great news!

Well, I'm happy to see that there are others like me who don't get it. I have Twitter, but I also don't get the whole # and @ thing... it seems like there is so much going on...
