Meet Me in_____

I've been blogging for a bit over a year now, but I haven't met any blogging buddies or online crit partners in person.

Most of my very close writing friends are nowhere near Nebraska. Since my town isn't exactly a favorite vacation spot, I doubt they're coming my way any time soon. My next best bet would be a writing conference, but my timing is always off.

I'm curious. How many of you have met the people behind the little Blogger icons, or your online crit partners?

Also, if you have a moment please visit Laura's post for this month's Sisterhood of the Traveling Blog question:

Does each book/story you write have an overarching theme, and if so, do you think of it ahead of time or discover it after?

Next week, my post is up, followed by Sarah and Deb!

I'm blogging since January and I keep hearing about crit partners. How did you organise yourself into a group with your crit partners? It sounds like a great idea, but you'd have to be linking with people on the same page as yourself.

I've met some of the bloggers at the nescbwi conference, which is where I met my current crit partners. But lots I haven't met.

I've been blogging a little more than a year, but I haven't met any of my blogging buddies. That has little to do with my reluctance and more to do with the fact that I'm based far, far away. Like, far east :P

I've met some at the Bloggy Boot Camp I went to last year. I'm hoping to meet more this summer in MN at the Tribal Blogs Conference.

I find it scary but exciting to meet the people behind the Blog. Scary because I might make a fool of myself. :-)

I haven't met any in person; but that's probably their good fortune :)

I've met a few blogger friends, and it is always a pleasure. No one understands a writer like another writer. Next week I am going to a concert with a dear writer/blog friend and we are meeting for the first time!

I've only seen pics of bloggie friends (and their kitties and woofies! LOL!) but not met any in person! With my last online writing course - we all planned to meet after our very last lesson but somehow it all fell apart! It's very strange though. I always wonder if I'd get along with my bloggie friends if we'd meet up in real life? Hmm, lots to ponder on!

Take care

I haven't met any bloggers, but I'm hoping that some will show up at Rocky Mountain Fiction Writer's Colorado Gold Conference this September!! Need incentive? Kristin Nelson and her whole crew are supposed to be there :)

I've not met anyone. Not even met myself.

I haven't met anyone. I'm within a couple hours of the writers in the Denver area, but I don't go that way often. One of these days, I'll have to break down and pay for the writer conference they have over that way.

I've only met one blogger and I flew all the way from Ohio to California to hang out with her for a week. It was so much fun. I want to meet more bloggers in the future but small town Ohio doesn't appeal to many!

I have met a few. One lived near me at the time. And a few years ago five of us met at a writers conference. It's fun putting real people and faces together with online personas. Some of us still stay in touch - LOL.

Yes I met a blogger friend in February whilst in Nashville, she and her husband took me out for a drive around Nashville,a real good night out.

Then last week meet a Face Book friend at a concert here in the UK.

It is good to put a face to a name.

I've been blogging a year and haven't met any of my blogging friends or CPs in person. I feel like someday I might, but not anytime soon. I don't travel much. :)

I'd love to meet my bloggy buddies in person, and I do plan to meet one in the Portland, OR, area when I'm up in May for the SCBWI conference there. That'll be fun, my first one to meet. My critter buddies live far from me, however, sniff.

I have only met one blogging buddy and it was not planned. Weirdly enough, she is a student in my class and we had no idea who each other was!

I think stories work best when they have an overall theme. Usually it is something that isn't consciously thought out ahead of time though.

I have met up with bloggers before. It is always fun. You are already close before you even meet.

Great topic, Lydia! My crit partners and I actually met at a conference workshop in August 2009 in Hawaii! Not only are we crit partners, we share a writing blog. It's worked out great for us. I do think, though, the fact that we met in a workshop rather than at the larger conference venue was helpful. We listened to and critiqued each others' work in the five-day-long workshop--a great way to get to know how well you fit with each other.

I haven't had the pleasure of meeting any of the kind souls I converse with online. Would love to, quite often they are the ones who bring a smile to my face.

If I'm ever around Nebraska, I'll give a heads up. Would be a joy to meet you. (Hugs)Indigo

Lydia I always love the images you use for your blog posts, they are absolutely adorable!

Some of my friends blog, but I knew them even before we joined the online blogosphere. I used to keep a LiveJournal and I made really great friendships with friends of already-good friends, if that makes sense.

However, I have not personally met any bloggers whom I first encountered online without any other mutual friends introducing us. I would love to meet you though Lydia, if I ever happen to drive from here (NC) to Nebraska! :P

I've been doing this for a little over a year, and haven't met anyone yet, but I have two things planned this year which should involve much frivolity (and meeting writers).

I've met a couple fellow bloggers at conferences, after first knowing them online. I also met some people at conferences that I now keep in touch with through blogs/twitter.

I also met one of my critique partners on twitter, and we took a leap and met in person... oddly enough we live 5 minutes from each other (a rare thing in Los Angeles). Now we meet once a week for to go over our pages or just talk about writing.

You should definitely try to attend a conference. They are so worth it!

I live in the UK and most bloggers are in the US so definitely not meeting often :)

I've been doing my blog for a while, to, but it will definitely be cool to meet my regular commentors face to face one day. Maybe at a book signing? :)

I haven't been in the blogosphere long, so I haven't had the chance to meet any of my Internet friends in real life. It's not that I wouldn't like to, but time is never on my side.

I have met two blog friends, not super close, but one happens to live here, authors of The Cowboy and the Vampire, and another who moved here recently.

I thoroughly enjoyed both meetings, and we talked for two hours! Even if you write in a different genre, (the one who moved here actually writes screenplays for teens) you will find much in common with them, because a writer is a writer, and publishing is publishing.

If I am ever in Nebraska, ; ), I would definitely swing by your area!

I just have names to go with the fun comments. Michael Di Gesu just met one of his oldest blog buddies, Christy.

Have a lovely day (the old flu just returned for me. Rats!)

Nope, haven't met anybody in person. Spoke to one person over the phone. Another crit partner is about 30 minutes away, ironically enough!

I would love to meet some blogging pals someday.

I met quite a few of my online buddies during my two year long nationwide book tour. I met friends in Ohio and North Carolina and Texas and Washinton. And New York. It was great. A lot of them were writer's forum friends who are also bloggers too. I loved it every time because it was like meeting someone I've known forever but finally being able to put a face to them.

I'd love to meet you one day, Lydia.

The only blogger I've ever met in Real Life is Sophia at Sophia Writes, and that's only because we realized that we live freakishly close to each other. Haha. I think it's a little daunting and scary but also fun! I'd love to meet more bloggers in real life, but yeah, distance is a major obstacle.

What's in Nebraska? Maybe I'll come visit. :P

I haven't met any of my blog/social networking friends in person, though I do email a few regularly, and have talked to a couple of them on the phone several times. Someday I would like to meet in person, though.

I've met many of my online friends in person over the years (I met my husband online in 1997 in fact but that's another thing entirely) My best advice: always, always meet in public, at least the first time *laugh*.

I've met online friends face to face that came from many different arenas online as it were and I certainly have a little 'dream list' of bloggy writer buddies I'd love to have tea and Twinkies with. Or coffee and Dunkin Donuts. I'm flexible.

I think the most surreal and amazing experience was writing a chapter for our online sci-fi series in person with a friend I've written online with for four years. This friend came here to visit me while I was so sick last fall.

From Australia.

Yeah. That was quite a time.

:~)

I've met a few bloggers from NC and would love to meet up with them sometime. Except....I'm TERRIBLY shy. Online-not so much. Hmmmm...

For a crit partner, I think it would be wonderful to have a face to face friend, don't you?

I am new to blogging, so haven't really made that many blogging friends yet. I do, however, play online FPS games, and I met a bunch of people that I play with! It's awesome!

I've met Ishta Mercurio and I would love to meet up with LadyJai who lives not too far over the border from me, but we have difficulty getting over the border until we are full residents, so not sure when that will happen. I live in Ontario, Canada.

I met a few blogging buddies in February at a blogging conference, and I'll meet a few more this summer at a writing conference. What fun! And no, I don't write with a theme in mind, but by the end of the first draft, I usually figure it out and then go back and strengthen it. Congratulations on blogging a year! That's a great achievement and you have an awesome blog!

Beth said...

I haven't met any of my blogging buddies yet, but I hope to someday! And usually the overarching theme comes to me while I'm in the process of writing.

Come on! Omaha is the center of the writing world! Maybe. I know two people, but I knew them before starting to blog. I taught 2nd grade with Renae Mercado. Another was a para in my school last year.

I have two "real life" friends that blog. Otherwise, I haven't personally met any bloggers. It would be fun though. :)

No, I nearly met a couple at the Brisbane Writers Conference, but it didn't work out. I'd love to but most of my blogging buds are from the US. However I've hooked up with someone in France who's offered to show me around Paris when I visit in June/July. That'd be sweet.

A few of my blogging friends I knew before I started my blog from a week-long writing workshop, but I haven't yet met any that I didn't know before my blog. I do have a crit partner I met through our blogs who lives in Dallas, and I hope to meet her on one of my visits to see my sister who also lives in Dallas.

I met a one blogger at a conference so that was cool. Luckily, I have a lot of writer friends in my area (NYC) because I met them through my MFA program.

I'd love to meet you in real life someday!

I love your illustration today. :)

I've only personally met the bloggers who are actually in my writing group. But I have to drive over 2 hours to make a writer's meeting, I don't see them much. Been about two years since I last saw any of them.

I went to school with a couple of my blogging buddies, and know some who live within my area too!
