First of all, I had the lovely experience of having my credit card info recently stolen.
What fun.
Yes. That is sarcasm, served dry with a splash of bitters.
Anyway, the perp kindly left me an email trail (not smart) of the $3000 of stolen merchandise within minutes of the illegal activity.
And, the thief also ordered the ship-to-store option, which leaves out his/her personal address (smart) but then I would be the one to get notified when the merch arrives at the store (not so smart).
Needless to say, I canceled my card and reversed the charges fairly fast. And I only emitted one very high-pitched yelp in the process! So proud!
Did you see how many plot-holes were in this plan?
The thief was clearly NOT a writer.
Hooray and cheers to stupid thieves!
Okay, on to better and happier items.
Please take a moment to hop over to Laura's blog for this week's Sisterhood of the Traveling Blog post on how she goes about doing critiques!Second, if you haven't had a chance, feel free to enter my 600's Followers Contest that ends on Friday.
And last but not least, Abby Minard is posting an Aspiring Author interview with me on her blog today. I get to discuss my writing process, Hobbits, Antarctica, and why sparkly vampires are doomed to defeat in a duel with wizards. Enjoy!
:)

I am SO SORRY, Lydia!!! Yes, at least he was a stupid thief, but still! *hugs*
Heading over to check out your interview!!
That's a bummer about the credit card. Glad you spotted it in time.
i'm so glad he was a dummy and that you were a smarty pants! writers prevail!
This has happened to me twice! Luckily, the credit card company was on it both times and I never had to pay for any of the stupid things I never really bought.
So sorry this happened to you!
Thieves suck.
Shelley
What a hassle, Lydia! I'm glad it got sorted out, but it was probably a painful time and energy suck. Now I'll go read that interview!
Oh lord that's such a pain in the rump. I'm glad you caught it quickly AND that the guy/gal was such a dork.
If someone steals my identity, I want them to pay my bills! So sad that this happened to you.
I'm popping over to your interview now. Have a warm day, Roland
Ugh, that sucks! That's happened to me. Fortunately, I'm broke. Ha! They never get much.
I also had my storage locker robbed once and they thought they got away with a huge box of DVDs but I keep my DVDs in cases. They got away with a box of empty DVD cases. ha!
I'm so sorry this happened to you. But you are so right, thank goodness for stupid thieves. I'm glad everything worked out.
Oh my goodness.. I'm so sorry! It's horrible.. it happened to me once too :S I'm so glad it worked out.
Thank goodness for stupid criminals - although if they were smart, they probably wouldn't be crooks...
Glad it all worked out!
Are you deciding to keep whatever they ordered up for you at the store?
Yes - a good loud cheer for stupid thieves!
I'm glad you had only a minor, yet very scary, hassle.
It;s awful to lose a credit card. I have several and lost my wallet, having to phone to report them missing was endless.but alls well that ends well, glad you were able to rectify his stupidity.
Yvonne.

Ugh, I'm so sorry that happened to you. But, yes, thank goodness for stupid criminals!
I had my car broken into two years ago. They smashed out my window and grabbed my set of baseball tickets and tire pressure gauge. . . and left my GPS unit and Laptop untouched. *shakes head*
We;ve had our credit card stolen a few times. Our credit card company was ALL over it. They called us at home and asked if we were in the Japan buying pool equipment. We said, "no you called us at home." The company canceled our cards and made sure we weren't charged anything. They also put a hold on our account because we tried to but something over $3000 on line. Annoying, yes, but helpful.
what a moronic criminal. was it a local store or out of town? we got id thefted by someone in cali once.
Sorry to hear your info got stolen, but what wicked good results because of his stupidity. I love dumb criminal stories. Heading over to read your interview. Have a great day!
Wow, sorry about your credit card but thank goodness you got that whole unfortunate mess sorted out so quickly. And I love that you can keep your humor a little bit about the whole situation. I'm off to check out your interview!
Whew! you are lucky, girl! My hubby and I had a replacement card stolen out of our mailbox once (yes, we got a locked box after that). Off to check out your interview!
Thank goodness for witless stupid thieves!!
But seriously!! I am so so so sorry this happened!!! I've had my card used fraudulently twice and both times were awful experiences!!
Well done for acting quickly though!! Take care! x
Wizards FTW! I'm off to take a look ...
Yes, most thieves are stupid. Thank goodness for that!
Haha, yes, writers would make much better thieves! Thank goodness you caught everything in time!
Wow, that guy didn't think out his plan very well. At least it made it easier (note easier NOT easy) to reverse it all.
Sorry you had to go through that, but good job catching it so quickly! I've had that happen before and there's such a feeling of helplessness at first, then empowerment when you fix it. Stupid people. Hopping over to check out your interview :)
Wow, sorry to hear about your credit card! There’s a lot to be said for stupidity though, thankfully.
OMG, that sucks about your credit card! SO glad you caught them!
Wow! Sorry to hear about that. Thankfully, you caught it.
Silly, silly thief - what an idiot.
Sorry you had to go through all that!
If only that thief had known who it was dealing with! You go girl! I've had that happen and it sucks, a lot. On to lighter things, I'm off to check out The Sisterhood Of The Traveling blog, sounds like fun!
EEK! I'm sorry that happened! Similar thing happened to me once, but it was partly my fault because I lost my card. XP Anyway, glad it's cleared up.
Will check out your interview!
What a pain in the neck. I had that happen recently too. It's a good thing theives are so stupid, but really what a hastle.
At least the dummy didn't do too much damage. Glad everything was sorted out.
I loved your aspiring author interview at Abby's today. I also was browsing through the entries on the Pay It Forward contest and saw yours. Of course, I loved the "Pride and Prejudice romance." The whole thing sounds really cool - good luck!
Ugggh, I've had that happen. Sorry it happened to you! My thief was stupid as well (stole my ATM card and tried to take money out of an ATM without a pin...).
I am sorry for the poor stupid thief!
glad it all worked out okay!
Hi Lidia,
Glad you found out about your card. Mine was stolen from my vehicle whil it was still in the bank envelope, it was a renewal card so lucky for me not activated.
Now off to check your interview!
Shame!
Of course, I have had a run in with stupid thieves as well.
I mean, you have to be pretty idiotic to steal a credit card from a student.
;-)
Die sparkling vampires!
And glad your thief was stupid.
Wow that sucks. At least you triumphed in the end!
Just read your interview -- it was awesome! Fun getting to know you even better :))
I'm so sorry! Glad to hear you caught it before anything dire happened.
I'm off to check out the interview!
Bahahaha! He is obviously not a writer. Cracked me up..
So glad you got it fairly early!! I'm sorry that crap happened at all though...
Sorry that happened, but I'm glad you caught it fast! Glad he wasn't a writer! :)
Oy vey, silly thieves! Still, SO frustrating!
Congrats on your guest post! :D
I'm sorry, Lydia. That is awful. I suffered identity theft. The person who moved into my former home when I got married reopened accounts under my maiden name I'd canceled. Apparently, they do not require the SS# when you reopen a department store credit card that had been canceled. Apparently, it is never truly closed, only inactive. They even sent her a statement WITH my credit card number so she was able to open others. Ugh, dumb department stores.
What an annoying ordeal, but glad you outsmarted the theif!
That really stinks! At least you were able to catch and reverse all the charges. Way to keep your head!
Ah, Lydia!! That really stinks and I'm glad you took care of it. I had someone use my credit card to order many pairs of shoes from China. Haha. Excited to read your interview!
P.S. I thought about you when I got into a conversation about medicine and art in class yesterday. You're so inspiring!

Yarp, definitely have to love witless thieves. Thanks for the links. I'm off to check them out :)
Wow! Glad you caught it fast! Thank goodness for stupid thieves :)
Lydia, just wanted to say that I'm glad your thieves were stupid! I had my wallet stolen a couple of years back and they never found the punks. Fortunately, my bank refunded my money, but it still was an awful experience... (Glad yours wasn't as bad!!)
Oh my gosh, how awful! But thank goodness the thief was such a dumb one, as you said!
Ha! The one thing that can make you feel better after a theft is catching the thief. I remember the feeling well. A stupid thief left footprints on my door while I was in college, and the police matched his boot to the prints. :-)
Just been to read your interview... Love to learn tidbits about blogger friends -- it's so cool that you write so passionately (and regularly) while keeping so busy with your job and everything!
And I'm glad you didn't have to track too long or too hard to catch that credit card thief -- who has the time for that!? :)
Sorry to hear about your stolen credit card. I have to say though, I do enjoy stories of stupid thieves, so than you for sharing your story and thank you random thief for being so stupid! LoL
BTW, love your blog!!! :-)
Good for you for emitting only one yelp! I would have required EMT! Oh, the thieves -- even when they leave plot-holes, they are still major peace-interrupters!!! Off to read your interview...
Happy Chinese New Year! 恭喜發財! Great blog you have here Lydia! And thank you for follow... Mei
Thank god for a stupid thief.
Going to check your interview now!
Congratulations on the interview! I"m looking forward to reading about ... Antarctica?
Yep. Glad that thief doesn't have a story to write...unless it's the one where he goes to jail. Heading over to read the interview.
I love it! I didn't see that coming, but you're right, it's a good thing most of us writers are pretty nice people, and that criminals don't have lessons in plotting.
So sorry to hear about your card. Glad things are straightening out.
Will hop over to see the interview!
Happy Thursday,
Karen
It's awful that your credit card has been stolen. I feel sorry for the thief, because he didn't know who he was dealing with. He had no idea he was stealing from a writer :)
I really enjoyed the interview.
I'm so sorry about the credit card thief, but so glad he's been stupid. I'll bet you have great fodder for writing an outrage scene, though. Nothing like personal experience, but it stinks that you had to go through it. I hope everything works out okay. Thanks for the great blog!
Lydia..thank God the thief was not a writer. Else, he or she would have plotted and planned in detail. Too bad you had to go through this experience.
I"m so glad you foiled that thief!
And glad you realized in time!
Thank you for your visit and kind word on my painting, we had our car key, house key and hubby's wallet stolen down the gym few years back, its a pain we need to change the car and house key...
Sorry, that's terrible about your card! Oh, and I read your interview at Abby's; really fun!
Oh my God. Thieves piss me off to no end! I had my car get broken into and my GPS get stolen and I was so livid! Argh!
I'm glad your thief was stupid - mine was probably a drug addict. GRRRRRRR.
I used to work for a bank. I dealt with that on the other side. You did a good job in limiting the damage.
I am so sorry for the theft situation, Lydia. I'm glad that your perp was a dumb one though. Thank heaven for small favors on that one. Here's to a better weekend!
Okay... I can't believe they didn't realize that you'd be the one notified... LOL!!!
You're so right... clearly not a writer!
