Bernard Pivot Blogfest!

So the fabulous Nicole Ducleroir is having this fun blogfest today. I'm looking forward to reading everyone's answers!

What is your favorite word?
Swimmingly. Yes, it's an adverb. Calm down, writers!

What is your least favorite word?
Ornery. Half the time, I hear it pronounced "ohn-ery" and that kind of bugs me. Where did the "r" go?

What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
Beauty in the natural world.

What turns you off?
When people make assumptions about my religion or ethnicity. I've been asked hundreds of times in my life if I'm Chinese. I'm not. I'm ethnically Korean, born and raised in the U.S.

Oh, and bullying. Bullying makes my blood boil.

What is your favorite curse word?
"F***ity F*** F***." I don't say it often. It is a sign of dire catastrophe in my life.

What sound or noise do you love?
My daughter makes this noise that sounds halfway between a Porsche engine and a cooing dove. I can't replicate it and it makes me grin like an idiot when I hear it.

What sound or noise do you hate?
The Annoying Orange. It's banned in my house because when I hear it, I come close to having a stroke and becoming violent. Plus, it actively stupidifies my children.

Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT YOUTUBE THE ANNOYING ORANGE. This whole blogfest was worth doing just so I do the good deed of warning the masses.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Does writing count? Okay. A painter.

What profession would you not like to do?
Anything that involves working on Black Friday.

If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
"It's okay that you didn't take the left turn at Albuquerque."
(Sorry. I felt oddly compelled to throw in some Looney Tunes philosophy.)

Have a great Wednesday, everyone, and please take a moment to visit Sarah Fine's Sisterhood of the Traveling Blog post on how she handles giving out critiques!

Oh, yeah...Black Friday would puff. And I'm giving Sam V. a high-five. She took my original comment. LOL

Fun answers - your daughter's noise sounds intriguing!

ha! "Porsche engine and a cooing dove" That is such a great description! I want to hear it! ;o)

You realize now that you said DO NOT YOUTUBE the annoying orange that someone will (that someone will certainly not be me though... promise)

As for that I love your favorite word. I might just take it as my own ;)

Angela Felsted said...

Black Friday, ugh! I avoid that day like the plague, let me tell you.

Vicki Rocho said...

You know I have to go look up the Orange now. My curiosity demands it. But I promise NOT to hold you responsible.

Erinn said...

I've avoided the Annoying Orange for exactly that reason. GGRRRR I hate bullying too, it's why I wrote a whole subplot to my book about boys who bully the bullies out of existence.

Such great answers! The way you described sound your daughter makes put a smile on my face. So sweet! And my kids have talked about The Annoying Orange, but I haven't watched it. And now, I won't. Thanks for the heads-up!!

And thanks for playing along!

Oh my gosh, the "ohn-ery" thing gets to me too! I have family-in-law from Oklahoma and they always say it. It irks me, but I try to breathe deeply and let it go :)

It's always a good idea to throw in some Looney Tunes philosophy :D

Hehe...your curse word made me laugh!

Amen and hallelujah to your comment about the Annoying Orange. I don't think I'll ever forgive my niece for showing me that...ugh.

Cheers!
Jen

Love your curse word/phrase (I used a phrase too). And "ornery" does sound so much better with two "r" sounds in it.

Krispy said...

Love your answers! Totally agree with you about the turn offs.

Okay, now WTF is the Annoying Orange?! I trust you enough to be wary about youtubing it, but I need to know more! What IS it? Otherwise, I may cave to my curiosity and look...

Donea Lee said...

Great answers! Ornery is a tough one for me, too. Love the comment about the noise your daughter makes ~ :)

Heather said...

LOL! I love the Looney Tunes reference! Nature inspires me as well. In fact, it probably inspires me more than anything else. Fun blogfest! I will not be googling the Annoying Orange... Thanks for the warning. ;)

Carolyn Cummings said...

Oh, the Annoying Orange. I was unfortunately exposed to this by the youth in my youth group...shudder. He is more than annoying. Urkel was annoying. The annoying orange should be shot.

Oh you crazy gal throwing up an adverb like that! I like the description of the sound your daughter makes.

Eliza said...

Love your answers :-)

Emy Shin said...

Awesome answers, Lydia! I can definitely sympathize with assumptions about my ethnicity -- I'm Vietnamese, but I can't keep count of the number of times people just started talking to me in Chinese. :/

Roland D. Yeomans said...

Really revealing, great answers, Lydia. I hate bullying also. I have a friend who became obsessed with saying the word "Abomination" aloud like a Baptist preacher during a revival. Abomination soon became an abomination to me! LOL.

Kari Marie said...

Your curse word made me laugh. You realize that now I must go watch this annoying orange?

Abby Minard said...

Great now you have me wanting to look that thing up on youtube...
The sound your daughter makes sounds interesting ;p

Elaine AM Smith said...

I won't look up the strange orange thing that causes you such aggrivation ;) I'm with you on bullying - and the coo of babies too.

Love Looney Tunes! :) Great blogfest. I'm in the Crusade with you too. :)

Black Friday scares the poop out of me. I don't know how all those retail salespeople can handle it. I once saw a woman get punched in the face over a pair of lacy underwear at Victoria's Secret. Those people can get downright freaky!

DL Hammons said...

Argh!! Bullying makes my blood boil as well!!!!

And F***ity F*** F*** --- LOL!!!!

The Desert Rocks said...

Looks like Lenny stole my identity.
Anyway, I hate when straight guys try to say the word, "Pithy" or "Pith" helmet.

KatyDid said...

I like the “swimmingly” thing.

I believe I only use adverbs around writers.

Just like ending a sentence with a preposition. I mean, what’s the use unless there’s a grammar Nazi around to notice?

I know the rules of grammar (for the most part), so if I violate them, it can be assumed I meant to.

WritingNut said...

Ooh. bullying really boils my blood too.

But argh... you know I'm going to want to go and youtube this annoying orange now... ahah.. I'm SO curious! :)

Corinne O'Flynn said...

oh my how I am trying to resist the you tube lookup of the Annoying Orange. I cannot imagine this... please hold.

Wow - that was something else... LOL!!! I will never do that again.

Enjoyed your list. :)

Something about repetition and adding and "itty" that makes that word so appropriate sometimes. =)

Well it looks like we're both in this blogfest AND the crusade, but I already follow so....just saying hi.

Jemi Fraser said...

Looney tunes are awlays welcome! :) Swimmingly is a great word too!

Jonene Ficklin said...

I'm with you on the annoying orange. My kids hauled me in to watch it. I only made it halfway through and I've since banned all annoying orange references. Thanks for letting us get to know you better! I really liked your #3 answer.

Theres just life said...

Your right about the Black Friday thing...I worked in Retail for years and I still get a tick when I think of it.
Oh and I am sure Bugs finally got the turn right I'm looking forward to seeing him in heaven.

Hi Lydia, just found your blog through Rach's Crusade, and am now following. :-)

Your answers are fun ... and there must be some crazy Loony Tunes voodoo in the air, because I was compelled to mention the whole left turn at Albuquerque thing in my Wednesday post as well. Too funny!

Anyway, I'll be dropping by regularly, especially for your Medical Mondays - did I happen to mention that my MC is a nineteenth century physician?? :-)

alexia said...

Great answers! Swimmingly is definitely good, and the f-word is a fave as well. I have a morbid desire to google the Annoying Orange, but I won't :) I am far too curious at times.

Your curse word made me laugh out loud and my kitty jumped off my lap! You know, right, that I have to go youtube the annoying orange....

Loved this!!!

Deniz Bevan said...

What on earth is the annoying orange? Never mind, I'll take your word for it!
I kind of like swimmingly, too :-)

Lisa Potts said...

Oh, that first r in ornery is so important to give the word that little extra oomph. My kids that word too.
